I read Semantically Tagged Photos from the Flickr website and shove them into Bubbles on a Google Map of the San Francisco Bay Area.
The Photos are of all of my Street Fashion Safari's during San Francisco Bay's Conterpublican Street Festivals.
Clicking a bubble replays my visual journey though these Conterpublican Spaces.
Many of these people describe themselves as Queer, Trans, Burner, Raver, Traveller, Crustpunk, Anarchist, Fag, Queen, Dyke, Dominant, Submissive, Fat Girl, (Queer)WomanOfColor, PersonOfColor, Butch, Femme, Transgender, Genderqueer or No-Label.
These are images of "Really Existing" counterpublics, genders and bodies. As such, these images will never be broadcast by "The Public".
My Magic Map is an Immutable Mobile which binds photos together into discrete GeoTemporal Events and sends them to your laptop or smartphone.
1. Jasper considers it to be an autonomous javascript lifeform. 2. It is geo-visual data from Flickr mashed into GoogleFeeds and GoogleMaps. 3. The markers represent experience trails documented in date-stamped geo-tagged photos in the Flickr Geo Cloud. 4. The geo-browser javascript app lives entirely within the the context of your Web Browser. It is born there, it lives there, and when you shut the browser tab, it dies there. 5. The Jasper on your screen is an object within the Geo Browser. This singularity is named jasper. 6. The Jasper leaves a trail on the map, a record of his travel or line of flight. The color of the experience trail is different each time jasper performs his dance.
7. Jasper's photos are ethnographies of a parallel future that is happening right now in greater San Francisco. 8. The Javascript Geo Browser creature pulls resources from the cloud to compete for the attention of the you, the viewer. 9. The DNA for the Geo Browser lives in the GitHub. Anyone can get a GitHub account, fork the evolution of the app and mutate it. This is successful competition and reproduction. 10. The Geo Browser is a first step in the exploration of "thick" geo temporal data. The kind of data with which we will program socio-technical assemblages in the not-so-distant future.
Take a look at my Pscho-Cartography at http://hyperlocative.appspot.com/wa/project9_4.html . The red line plots my progress on the photo day. Project9_4 is a mashup of rss feed data from My Flickr Account. The Geotagged flickr photos are mashed together in the Google Maps Api and a Javascript Slideshow. If you are interested in the Technology please view the HTML source in your browser. It is a very short program written in structured Javascript. This is HTML5 and it runs in the Iphone (after debugging that is) and Android Smartphones.
